About Us
The Orland Fire Protection District is an independent special district that provides the funds for the fire protection services to the parcels in the unincorporated area surrounding the City of Orland. The Orland Fire Protection District receives these funds from the County of Glenn from taxes collected with a Special Assessment Tax on the parcels in this District. While the Orland Volunteer Fire Department provides the man power for these services, the Orland Fire Protection District provides the funds to make the fire protection services in this district possible. These funds go to things like; engines, water tenders, equipment, gear, supplies, emergency systems, dispatching, training, and funds to support the Volunteers.
We have a five member Board of Directors who are appointed to their position by the Glenn County Board of Supervisors. The Orland Fire Protection District Directors, who hold office for four year terms, are not paid for their services. The District meetings are generally held on the second Tuesday every other month at 6:00pm and are held at the Orland Volunteer Fire Department located at 810 Fifth Street in Orland.
As previously noted, the Orland Volunteer Fire Department is the actual entity that provides fire protection services to the parcels within the Orland Fire Protection District. The Orland Volunteer Fire Department also provides fire protection services to the parcels within the boundaries of the City of Orland. The City of Orland and the Orland Fire Protection District provide equipment and funding to the Orland Volunteer Fire Department, which in turn provides the fire protection services to both the City of Orland and to the Orland Fire Protection District These services include: Structural firefighting, Wildland firefighting, Emergency medical response, Hazardous materials response, Rescue, Public Service, and Mutual aid to other fire districts.
